To life

Posted by Aura Charisse on April 1, 2017 at 9:15 PM Comments comments (0)

I haven't even reached a quarter, yet I still feel like I'm in a life crisis every single day.

It kills me to be endlessly pacing while not being able to essentially live. It feels as if I'm merely letting life drag me around to anywhere and everywhere it pleases. At times, I find it rather a pity how everything is incredibly fast paced, that you're highly pressured to keep up. Otherwise, you crumble. I don't want to come off as ungrateful. No, the purpose of this is not as a rant but as a reminder.

In the midst of the limbo, I hope we may never forget,

to appreciate the now,

to value our loved ones,

to express love, to apologize, to learn,

to savor each moment, to appreciate the little things,

to remain grateful for the opportunities and privileges that surpass us,

to stay grounded, to keep our morals, to uphold honor,

to love ourselves,

to be true,

and ultimately, to live.

I hope we never die to life.

This is me writing for my sanity.

Cheers to our goals and dreams, but more cheers to life!

Pedestrian lanes.

When life gets tough in general, days can get really dark and grim.
Stress levels get so high that you reach a breaking point.
Sometimes though, it’s all we need to appreciate the light that comes in.
In the midst of the struggle, we’re reminded that it is all for a greater plan
--- so we surpass the threshold of pain and come back stronger.

Stand tall, take courage & cross the pedestrian lanes of life!

I’m wearing my old halter ballet leos paired with oversized mom jeans. Juxtaposed with the ever so popular scarf and choker trend, I’m wearing this bandana around my neck to bring my game up. And I wore 5 inch statement heels for the height and attitude!

Hope you like it, dear readers!

Slay if you will.

I find that life's too short to be settling with dissatisfaction and frustration. I learned it the difficult way that if there's something you're ultimately unhappy about in your life, will yourself to change that very aspect. Who says the pursuit of success and happiness was ever easy? It's a grand effort.

Instead of sulking in self pity for our insecurities, why not pick ourselves up and work on our weaknesses? Instead of succumbing to crab mentality, why not encourage others and build each other up? Instead of using superiority complex to make up for our own hang-ups, why not accept our waterloo and work to become better? Instead of worrying about what others will say about you, why not follow what makes your soul happy?

If conquering yourself means doing things differently to be bigger than life, bask in your uniqueness! If conquering yourself means plucking up every bit of courage and resiliency for your dreams, toil away. If conquering yourself means letting go of toxicity that hinder your growth, walk away and be directed towards your improvement. If conquering yourself means being more comfortable in your own skin, embrace your flaws and flaunt your assets, by all means! If conquering yourself means having style as your identity, express the creativity of your character.

If conquering yourself means wearing a classic olive green romper and a pair of 4.5 inch strappy wedges to the urban streets of Makait, go for it and slay that outfit!

All cardigan.

Anyone who personally knows me is very well aware of my cardigan obsession. Regularly, I wear a different cardigan a day. I invest in quality cardigans mainly because of three reasons:

- They’re absolutely versatile. You can easily make a look more interesting by simply throwing a cardigan on. It breaks off the monotony of an outfit.
- Its functionaliy. The woven sleeve of premium textile keeps you cozy during cold, rainy days. If you're extra temperature sensitive, it saves you from the brutal breeze of ACs on full blast.
- Security. This may be less relevant, but as for me, wearing a cardigan somehow gives me the slightest shred of protection. Ever owned a piece that served as your *security clothing? A cardigan is mine. Imagine your security blanket in clothing form!

Among my cardigans, this striped one is currently my favorite. On this gloomy, humid day, I made this grey cardigan as the centerpiece of my look. It’s only practical too, as rain was bound to pour down. Because of the grey stripes, I’m keeping the palette very desaturated by pairing it up with washed denim shorts and by wearing a simple white tank top underneath, which I tucked in for the added dimension. To enhance my silhoutte even more, I accessorized the shorts with a thick, huge-ass belt in dirty white. I wore my usual white sneaks and matched the pair with grey ankle socks. I think showing off the socks kept things playful and downright comfortable. Lastly, I'm wearing my favorite pearl earrings for the touch of classiness.

This outfit is the definiton of my comfort zone.
If you were to do the same, how would yours look?

Thrift of grids.

I’m wearing this breezy dress with my staple white sneaks and sunnies. Weather was a wee bit erratic, so I had this coat ready in case it gets cold later that day. I love how this dress just lets me move around so easily. Long enough, loose enough, thick enough, comfortable enough. I also find it effortlessly stylish. I literally can just wear this alone with very minimal accessories. If it weren’t chilly that day, I can actually just wear this with my white sneaks and pearl earrings. Achromatic grids win!

The best part about this dress?

IT’S CHEAP. Downright! This cost me just a little under five hundred, which is such a steal considering its quality. The fabric is super. Here’s a little advice when shopping for clothing pieces, always look at the quality first before the brand. Actually, you only really look at the brand as reference for future purchases. If this particular brand works for you, you’ll want to get more of their pieces and that’s why you remember the brand; not for prestige, not for bragging rights and what not. It’s all about quality.

Sometimes, even the most popular brands out there fail to deliver good quality. Don’t be a victim! You wouldn’t want to splurge hard-earned money on medicore quality right? Be wise shoppers, dear readers!

By default.

Posted by Aura Charisse on June 20, 2016 at 11:25 AM Comments comments (0)
My wardrobe’s been such a mess for too long.

It’s an absolute fiasco!

Part of my checklist for summer is to tidy up my closet and to get rid of clothing pieces that I no longer wear. Over the years, I managed to accumulate a bunch of clothes with the most ridiculous fashion sense. Somehow my teenage self’s idea of being fashionable is to wear EVERY SINGLE TREND out there; whether stylish or completely the opposite. It’s stupid, really, how I wasted so much money on such silly items. For crying out loud, I own a hot pink feather boa that I never wore!

I still had so many clothes from my awkward days of puberty (emphasis on awkward) and even from childhood. When I saw the bulk of clothes I wanted to get rid of, I realized how everything I used to wear before were all screaming with bright colors and wacko prints! That’s a good 40% of my wardrobe that I no longer wanted.

Dear readers, you know my present day self can’t be seen wearing color. I find it surprising how years ago, I wore anything colorful and printed. Now, on most days, I just can’t be bothered with color and on the rare occassions that I actually AM wearing color, it’s kept at a minimum of pastels or monochromes. I find so much solace in neutrals and achromatic these days.

Coming of age, probably?
