Mini Benefit Haul

Posted by Aura Charisse on September 4, 2017 at 8:00 PM Comments comments (1)

Ola, dear readers!

It's been a while since my last makeup post, so I hope you'll enjoy this mini haul.

Let me share with you the new goodies I've purchased from Benefit.

This mini haul includes three main products: the GALifornia blush, the 1st Prize Highlighters set & the Eye Got Brow set.

I prefer my daily makeup to be very light and doable. It’s highly incovenient to be wearing thick lathers for everyday, don’t you think? I like my makeup to feel very light, though still providing quality pigments. I find that Benefit products work quite well on my skin. Every now and then, I like to repurchase their products when I’ve hit pan or to try some of their newer ones.

Mandatory to my daily makeup is a coral blush with fine shimmer. My go-to blush product has been Benefit’s Coralista, but because I use it every single day, I’ve consumed nearly all of it. Originally I planned to repurchase Coralista, ‘til I saw they released a new coral blush, GALifornia. GALifornia is absolutely beautitul! It shares a similar shade of sunset orange hues with Coralista, but with MUCH MORE gold shimmer. Trust me when I say the amount of gold shimmer is very generous. You’ll be like a glowy California goddess wearing this blush! From the lovely sun pattern mold to the hipster packaging, I love everything about this blush. Absolutely gorgeous!

Next is the 1st Prize Highlighters set, which is a sampler entirely dedicated to strobing & highlighting. I’ve been experimenting with highlighting recently so I figured, what better way to test it out by getting a sample each? All three products come in mini sizes. Yes, the sizes are quite small and there isn’t a lot of product, but it’s just exactly what I needed. Would I recommend this purchase for replacing your staples? No. Would I encourage you to get this for product trial? Definitely.

The set comes with three products: Shy Beam, High Beam & Sun Beam. Shy Beam, from the name itself, is a very subtle strobe. It’s a very light nude, opaque shade. It’s very similar to that of a concealer actually, except for the light consistency, which a concealer would otherwise give a heavy one. My only problem with this product is that it’s very close to my natural skin color, so it doesn’t make much difference! If you have a darker skin palette and you’re not into shimmer, then Shy Beam will suit you more. I would much rather prefer to wear the other two of the set. High Beam is a pink, champagne shimmer that gives you a nice rosy glow. It’s subtle enough for an everyday look, but still giving you a classy shimmer. Contrastingly, Sun Beam is a warm shimmer that’s perfect for a golden look with a tad more glitter than High Beam. I think this highlighter is very suitable for a beachy, summer makeup look! Sun Beam has to be my favorite. I highly recommend it!

Lighting was not on my side when I shot the photos, thus my skin's yellow undertone was ever so prominent! Please excuse my Simpson skin. Here is a swatch of the highlighters. From left to right: High Beam, Shy Beam & Sun Beam.

Last in the haul is the Eye Got Brow Set. Quick story about this purchase, I wanted to replace my Goof Proof brow pencil in 04 Medium to an 03 Medium, simply because I find it to be slightly too dark. Dad was traveling when I asked if he could kindly buy me the lighter shade, ONLY if it weren’t a hassle and if he would come across a Sephora store by chance, which didn’t happen, by the way! Instead, Dad literally made time for a trip to Sephora to purchase not just the brow pencil but the entire set! And my dad is truly not familiar at all with anything makeup, so imagine my surpise and kilig! Of course he could’ve gotten it by mistake… but I’d like to believe he merely had the best intentions to gift an entire set hehe. Nevertheless, thank you Poppa!

It really excited me that I get try the other two products as well. Along with the Goof Proof brow pencil, the set also includes the Roller Lash mascara in mini, & the Ready, Set, BROW! setting gel also in mini.

The Roller Lash mascara comes with an interesting convex brush designed to really curl the lashes, which I very much like. One swipe really elongates and curls and definitely adds the much coveted length and volume. Although, I did notice that when the heat gets super intense, it has a tendency to melt and smudge a tad bit under my eyes. Just a little heads up if you stay in a tropical country like me! Nevertheless, it’s still a really good product I would repurchase as it applies evenly and smoothly. Its black pigment is also really good without being too over the top.

Ready, Set, BROW! gel came in really handy. It’s the holy grail product I never realized I needed! You see I have naturally thick, uneven, bushy brows, which without the aid of a tweezer would look absolutely horrendous, and the setting gel conveniently keeps every strand in place. It’s perfect for keeping my brows neat the entire day, whether I’m wearing a full glam look or I simply just want my brows to look extra on a “no-makeup” makeup day.

The Goof Proof brown pencil is perfect for my fellow brow enthusiasts who are just getting into the art of drawing your brows in. Goof Proof is very forgiving as it allows easy application, with the strategic shape of the pencil tip to the ergonomic handle of the product . It glides on very easily without the mess. Also the pigment is really good, not too much to give you Sharpie brows and just right to offer a natural finish. I absolutely love using this product everyday for my brows!

And that wraps it all up, I hope you enjoyed this mini haul.

Let me know if you'd like more posts like this. I'd be happy to create for you!

Have a great week ahead, dear readers!

BeautyMNL Holiday Haul

Posted by Aura Charisse on December 13, 2016 at 1:55 AM Comments comments (0)
After a horribly difficult year that is 2016, I want to close the chapter by spoiling myself with holiday treats. Where else to go to than BeautyMNL? If you follow me on Instagram, you very well know of my obsession for BeautyMNL; my number one go-to stop for all things beauty. BeautyMNL caters quality products from a grand selection of brands for makeup, skincare, hair care, accessories and even daily hygienic necessities.

Allow me to share with you my BeautyMNL Holiday Haul 2016

All year round, they have sets available for gifting, but since it's holiday season, I found it specifically suitable at the moment to try their gifts sets. I purchased the following: the All Eyes On You gift set and the Wild Things gift set.

The All Eyes On You gift set consists of an eyeshadow palette, a duo eyepen, and a makeup applicator. The eyeshadow palette consists of two choices, In the City & In the Mood, which are variations of different neutral shades. In the Mood is much warmer as compared to the cooler tones of In the City. The shadows are perfectly subtle for an everyday makeup look. The duo pen has two ends, with one end functioning as an eyeliner and the other end functioning as a brow pencil. Both eyeliner and brow pencil appear in a brownish-black shade. Lastly in this set, we have the makeup applicator, which is also double ended. On one end, it's a very soft eyeshadow brush and on the other end, it's the classic eyeshadow sponge. Everything curated in the set has been made suitable for that flawless, daily makeup look.

The Wild Things gift set consists of three different facial masks for whitening, smoothening and even targeting those naughty wrinkles. This set is the cutest! Each sheet mask comes in an animal face design, which is perfect for having at-home facial sessions with your friends and family. The sheet masks are a trio of a dragon, a tiger and a panda. It's absolutely the most adorable way to pamper your skin!

I'm pretty satisfied with my haul, as I always am with every BeautyMNL shopping experience!

Bias aside, I shop at BeautyMNL because every transaction is so quick and convenient. You can order your product today and get it as soon as the next day. Also, their cash-on-delivery mode of payment makes it really easy to purchase. What a relief from the burden of waiting in long lines to deposit in banks or from the technicalities of credit card usage!* #adulting In the midst of busy med school weeks, when I can’t find the time to make a trip to the mall, BeautyMNL is my place whenever I need replenishing of skincare and makeup needs. It’s only a few minutes of clicking away and your order is delivered to your doorstep. It’s so efficient!

*Though if you're more comfortable with those modes of payment, it's not a problem at all as BeautyMNL also offers them. I just personally prefer easy COD.

I also want to commend their customer service which is GREAT --- honestly one of the finest services I've encountered online. Never will it be painfully useless to reach out to them, as they will accommodate you ASAP --- and by ASAP, I mean ABSOLUTELY ASAP --- and assist you in the best way they can. Another plus for me is how witty and sweet they are too! I appreciate the fact that they value customer relations by making the simple effort of communicating in a more personal way. Who wouldn’t appreciate being called beautiful?

Another asset of BeautyMNL is their monthly contest, #SelfieMNL where you can get a chance to win Php200 worth of credits. It's as easy as taking a selfie to start off your retail therapy! Trust me when I say it's fun because not only do you win credits, but you also win a polaroid of your chosen selfie!**

**I've joined and won twice already hihi (Hint: May & December)

In a nutshell, what truly lures me to BeautyMNL is the overall shopping experience. Other than the irresistible quality products, BeautyMNL is excellently professional, lovingly witty, and gorgeously fab!

Try it out for yourself and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. You’re only a click away from your BeautyMNL experience!

Makeup haul and first impressions.

Posted by Aura Charisse on September 10, 2016 at 7:30 AM Comments comments (0)
Your girl’s obsessed with makeup. It’s been a hot minute since I last posted about makeup and a haul is due!

Over the past couple of months, I’ve accumulated a good amount of products and I thought of sharing them here on the blog. I personally enjoy hauls as I get a heads up whether the makeup products are worth the buy or not. So alongside this haul, I’ll walk you through the products by sharing my first impressions. Enjoy!

Inglot Cosmetics

The first product is a lipstick from Inglot Cosmetics in Shade 140. It has this deep raspberry shade. It’s quite pigmented with a slight shimmer to it. I find this perfect for a night out with friends!

I always hear people rave about NYX lip products. It’s about time I try some of their famous liquid lipsticks! I chose to try their Liquid Suede collection in four shades: Cherry Skies, Kitten Heels, Soft Spoken and Tea & Cookies.

Cherry Skies and Kitten Heels belong to the red fam of lippies; with Cherry Skies being deeper and darker in shade, while Kitten Heels being brighter. I’d recommend Kitten Heels for that classy red lip look and Cherry Skies for that grunge look. Soft Spoken is in between shades of brown and red. Though it appears slightly dark on the lips, I still find this suitable for an everyday neutral look.* Tea & Cookies, on the other hand, is a shade I’m not too sure of, to be honest with you.** It appears very brightly pink on the lips, which I’m not a fan of, but if you’re someone who loves vivid lip colors, this one is the shade for you!

I’d give the formula an A+ as the products are very easy to apply, quite long lasting, highly pigmented and really affordable. Now I know why everybody raves about NYX! The collection also has a variety of colors. Currently, I’m eyeing Sandstorm, which is a brilliant nude shade. Be mindful though, that these liquid lipsticks give off a matte finish. As with every matte product, it’s important to apply a primer beforehand, to do away with dry, chapped lips.

*If ever you’ve tried Cream O’ Spice from MAC, this shade is very similar to that. A perfect dupe, if you ask me.
**I purchased this mistakingly thinking it’ll appear brownish pink.

It's one of those days when mom impulsively goes shopping then realizes that she doesn't like/need her purchase as much, and hands it over to me! Hihi. Mom bought Lancôme's Grandiôse Smudgeproof Mascara (it's probably the sales talk that got to her) when she realized how she doesn't really need this mascara. She thought it was just reasonable to give it to me since I use mascara daily. Boy, how lucky!

I'm honestly procrastinating its consumption just because it's sooo pretty! I mean look at the black rose on the cover! I've opened it though and the formula comes out bluish-black, but appears brilliant black when applied. It has a wide angle fan effect brush which accentuates the length of your lashes. True to its claim, it doesn't smudge nor does it clump. It stays completely fluid; no unneccessary chunks of product forming on your lashes.

When it comes to long term use, I have yet to experience the magic of this wand and my expectations are high!

I purchased three products from MAC: two lipsticks and a concealer.

For the lipsticks, I have an Amplified Crème lipstick in the shade Brick-O-La and a Retro Matte lipstick in the shade Runway Hit. I’d say both shades are suitable for everyday makeup. Brick-O-La is darker wine red, while Runway Hit is a lighter coral-pink shade. Formula-wise, I prefer Amplified Crème over Retro Matte just because it’s more hydrating on the lips; though I still won’t reject Retro Matte as it’s still a satisfying product on its own. Among the lipstick products I’ve tried so far, I must say that MAC is supreme. MAC lipsticks are truly long lasting and very pigmented. They don’t chip off at all and remain on your lips as long as possible. Though a little costly for a lipstick, it’s still a good investment for quality makeup.

The concealer I bought is the Select Moisturecover in Shade NW20. Rarely do I apply foundation for my everyday makeup, so a good concealer comes in very handy when hiding my under-eye circles. This concealer doesn’t cake, blends very well, and lasts very long on your skin, even without the use of a foundation. With just this concealer sealed off with powder, I’m good to go. I would repurchase this as one of my makeup essentials.

It’s also a bonus that MAC products are really fragrant!

For Clinique, I have these Chubby Stick Moisturizing Colour Lip Balms in shades 01 Poppin' Poppy & 03 Mightiest Marachino. The lip balms are very moisturizing. They color your lips just as well too. Though the shades appear slightly different when applied*, I personally have no issues with that and still wear them quite often. I also have the Chubby Stick Shadow Tint for Eyes in 01 Bountiful Beige. The shadow tint is good for natural eye makeup, especially as an eyeshadow base. This one appears more of powdery than creamy. It has this slight shimmer mixed with it's beautiful nude shade.

I find all of the products just so wearable for everyday, especially if you're going for a light makeup look. These are the products you use when you don't want anything heavy on your skin yet still want to achieve a natural glow.

*Poppin' Poppy appeared more pinkish than coral on me. With the orange packaging, I expected a nice coral finish. Pink works fine though!

Benefit Cosmetics

For the longest time I’ve been wanting to try Benefit’s blushes and bronzers, so when they released their Cheekathon, I knew I had to get myself one! I find it very convenient to have an entire set for color and contour. So it’s basically all of Benefit’s blushes and bronzers in one palette. The Cheekathon consists of Dandelion, Hoola, Rockateur, Dallas & Coralista.

For the blushes, I like to use either Dandelion and Coralista, depending on my makeup look. Dandelion is soft pink with very minimal shimmer, while Coralista is a summery-orange blush with a generous amount of glitter. Rocketeur, on the other hand, is a strong champagne shimmer, which can actually even be used as a highlighter. Hoola is the favorite among many, but I personally prefer Dallas as it works best for my yellow undertones.

Cheekathon is really good for everyday use. You get a very natural finish. Not too heavy, not too flashy. Just the right blend of pigment to enhance your featues. I'd highly recommend it for your daily makeup routine!

That concludes this makeup haul! I hope you enjoyed it; may it be for future reference or pure passion for makeup.

Stay beautiful, dear readers!

Makeup pristine.

Posted by Aura Charisse on March 30, 2016 at 11:30 AM Comments comments (0)

Let’s talk makeup.

I’m such a makeup junkie! My study breaks consist of either watching makeup tutorials, browsing online cosmetic catalogues or even writing reviews for certain products. Makeup is also a favorite topic of conversation among friends too! There’s just something about using your own face as a canvass in creating art that I find so enjoying; whether it be simple, natural everyday makeup or head on glamorous nighttime makeup.

I’ve always wanted to blog about makeup, but as you can see, I haven’t actually attempted to write a single post yet. I’m currently still in the process of finding ways to specifically execute my ideas. Shooting a makeup tutorial with a camera may be more technical than it seems. I’m also learning different techniques in applying makeup. Brushing up on skills wouldn't hurt right? Technique should be just as on point as the finished product! Another prep I’m doing is collecting more cosmetic products. Variety is good. This way I can have more experience in using makeup, particularly being keen on the quality of the product and learning how to differentiate the shabby from the classy. And when it comes to drugstore products, Maybelline is pristine!

If there’s anything, Maybelline delivers. Their products are such steals! They give you quality makeup products at affordable prices. In fact, some of the best mascaras out there are from Maybelline. I kid you not, my driest of lips have been moisturized by Baby Lips, my darkest of eye circles have been concealed by Age Rewind, my cheeks have been made rosy and sparkly by Cheeky Glow and my lashes have been emphasized by Rocket Volum! In the journey with makeup, it’s equally important to find a brand you trust. Find one that works best for you and your delicate skin. When you find that brand, stay with it!

I’m very meticulous, you see. As soon as I figure everything out, I’ll be adding two dimensions in this blog — of makeup & beauty. For now, let’s keep learning, practicing and refining the craft and let time tell. You can’t hasten the ripening of the fruit, they say! Stay tuned!

Maybelline is available at ZALORA. Grab your own Maybelline product and see for yourself!

Have a lovely weekend, dear readers!
